Augustus Hilmer, LADC, MS
Psychotherapist (Substance Use and Mental Health Counselor)
Psychometrist
Augustus Hilmer is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor with over a decade of experience across inpatient, residential, and outpatient mental health and substance use settings. He brings a genuine commitment to harm reduction, ethical practice, and building relationships with clients that feel honest and grounded rather than clinical and distant.
Augustus approaches clinical work as a collaborative exploration of the narratives, meanings, and patterns that shape a person's experience, rather than a narrowly symptom-focused process. He is especially attentive to shame, stigma, and the ways systemic barriers compound individual suffering. His orientation draws on existential, depth psychological, and humanistic traditions, with a particular interest in how people make meaning out of difficult experiences.
He has experience working with a wide range of individuals and communities, including those navigating co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people whose lives have been shaped by trauma, marginalization, and the failures of systems meant to support them. He believes that effective counseling begins with creating a space where people feel genuinely seen, and that recovery and growth look different for every person who walks through the door.Outside the clinical hour, Augustus remains committed to the idea that ethical, accountable practice is not just a professional obligation but a form of advocacy for the communities we serve.
